Brett's Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy

Last Thursday Brett finally got rid of his super enlarge tonsils (and adenoids for good measure).  Brett has always had one tonsil that was quite large and finally after many years of asking about it they decided that they weren't healthy and needed to come out.  So at 7:15 a.m. Brett and I checked into the surgery center.  Marty and Blake held down the fort at home waiting for our return.  Brett was a trooper going in...didn't seem to nervous and took everything in stride.  During the doctor's pre op visit he informed Brett that they would put his tonsils in a container for him to take home.  Brett thought it was awesome, I thought it was quite disgusting.
Post-Op....Brett didn't have any issues during surgery and woke up without any problems.  The first thing he asked me when he woke up was "Where are my tonsils?"  He had to check them out right away.  So with a popsicle in one hand and tonsils in another....he was a happy guy.
We were able to check out at about 9:30 a.m. and with one quick stop to get the pain meds we were home. He took full advantage of the ice cream only diet and Sassy took her job of TLC very seriously.
All in all Brett's recovery has been pretty good.  He's had a couple of rough days but that was to be expected.  Hopefully he'll be good to go by the end of the week and can enjoy Easter weekend with family and be ready to go back to school on Monday.

Spring Break 2013 in Sunny AZ!

Friday, March 15th, we took off for sunny Arizona for Spring Break.  We had a packed 4 days ahead of us before heading back home on the following Wednesday.
The boys waiting at the airport.  (Blake had to bring Flat Stanley along as we had to finish a project related to him before Blake went back to school.)
We stayed at the Arizona Grand Resort in Phoenix.
Definately not in KS anymore, not only because of the palm trees, but because the weather was much much nicer in AZ than KS for sure.
View at the resort....too bad none of us golf.
But the boys do swim and did a lot of it while we were there.  Many laps around the lazy river were done.
 Playing in the wave pool.

Blake has always been a social child and new places are no different.  Every day he would tell me how many new friends he made at the pool.  Granted he couldn't remember all their names, but everybody knew who Blake was.  This little girl was Lily and she happened to be from Wichita, KS.  Crazy...they had a good time playing together one afternoon.
Nothing better than ice cream pool side.
Again...Blake making new friends in the hot tub.  These kids were at least 3-4 years older than Blake but he didn't care.  I believe they were discussing college basketball here.
Brett made many trips down these slides.  Blake would have too, but he didn't make the height requirement.
We also went to the Phoenix Zoo and an Aquarium.  The boys loved both and the weather couldn't have been better.  On Tuesday we went to a Royals vs. Rockies spring game.  Again perfect weather makes for a perfect outing.  My aunt and uncle have a winter home here and also volunteer at these games so we got to see them and have supper with them.  Had we had more time they would have taken us to many more sights and activities I'm sure.

Wednesday came all too quick and it was time to head home. When we got to the airport and were making our way to our gate we ended up here...an outside waiting area.  AZ knows how to build an airport...too bad we don't ever get stuck there for a layover....it was nice to be able to sit outside and soak up the last bit of sunshine.
Arizona was fun and we all enjoyed the sun especially since knowing it was cold and dreary back home with a snow storm on the way.

Boys Basketball comes to a close

This last weekend the both boys finished up their seasons of basketball.  Even though I wouldn't say we ended up with winning seasons (Blake's games the score isn't even kept, except for Marty :) ) they were fun seasons and the boys got a little better.
Blake taking a shot.
Bringing the ball down the court and looking for the shot.
And the best part is getting the medal.

Brett's team was definately better than last season however not a winning season.  The boys last few games were good close games and two of the three coming out with wins....one in overtime.
We are looking forward to spring sports which hopefully means spring weather.  Blake will play spring flag football (first time with this sport) and Brett will be starting baseball as soon as it dries out.
